There are all kinds of accent chairs you can own to grace the presence of your home. The most versatile one of all is the Swivel Chair, which can flawlessly fit into every type of room. The Swivel chair is a chair with a seat that is easily turned in any direction by its base. We know this type of chair is unique, but we want to figure out the characteristics that make this chair one-of-a-kind. Read along as we decipher the Pro’s and Con’s of Swivel chairs.

PROS

VERSATILE IN ITS DESIGN

We often see swivel chairs being designed in a variety of styles, from modern to traditional and everything in between. They can be dressed in velvet, patterns, or plain colour fabric, with so many options, it will be no problem to find a swivel chair that blends perfectly into your living space.

FUNCTION MEETS COMFORT

The structure of swivel chairs often has lots of curves in their arms and high backs. These curves allow you to feel relaxed in the chair while feeling completely comfortable without even noticing how healthy your posture is. While these chairs do add lots of comfort to the lounging experience, as a bonus they have great back support and can contribute to your posture as well.

THE “SOCIAL BUTTERFLY” OF CHAIRS

Easily the best chair to have for social gatherings. Having a swivel chair in your living room is the ideal way to jump into different conversations and be able to see everyone in the room. The function of the chair allows you to turn your chair with ease to the person you want to speak to, without having to ever leave your seat in the process. Sitting in this chair you will chat up a storm all evening long!

CONS

HERE FOR A GOOD TIME, BUT… A LONG TIME

We love the social aspects of this chair and how it can move in one place… but what happens if you no longer want that swivel chair in your space? The heavy mechanism of swivel chairs can be quite difficult to move to another room whenever you want to change the furniture or the style. These chairs are designed to have you sit in one place for a long time. We suggest thinking about which room you want your swivel chair to be placed in before you move it there.

STYLISH BUT NOT ALWAYS PRACTICAL

We know that swivel chairs are a stylish addition to any room but are they ready for the spotlight at any moment? The answer is rarely. Swivel chairs are often left from a position they were just swiveled in, never facing the right direction to welcome guests into the room. In this case, swivel chairs can be left looking messy, and give off an untidy feeling in a room. In addition, as adults, we love a gentle swivel in our chair, but when kids see a swivel chair it immediately becomes a fun, spinning ride that never ends. A swivel chair can be an impractical choice for families with small children.

IS NOT SUITABLE FOR ALL AGES

Even though swivel chairs can be crafted with any design and style in mind, and are extremely comfortable, they may not be the most practical chair to have for the older demographic. Having a swivel chair can be hard to get into and up from. Therefore, it can be an unstable and unreliable option for a chair to have in an older person’s living room.

Swivel Chairs are one of our favourite furniture pieces, we love a lot of their qualities, but we also know they can have a few complications in certain circumstances. No matter if you are pro swivel chairs or not, it is important to remember that not every type of furniture is going to please everyone and at the end of the day it all comes down to listing the reasons why you want a swivel chair.
